The hot/cold packs that are currently on the market include electric heating pads and silicone gel packs. Many of these products require a constant flow of electricity to produce heat and may not be safe for the environment. Corn bags are a natural, organic, reusable energy source alternative to these traditional hot/cold packs. Corn bags create a penetrating heat and pleasant natural fragrance not found in heating pads or any silicone packs. If used appropriately these bags can last for years.

There are many uses for your corn bag. You can use it warm for sore muscles, backache, menstrual cramps, arthritis, pain from fibromyalgia, sinus pressure, tension relief, insomnia, or as a bedwarmer. You can also freeze your corn bag for post-surgery pain, sports injuries, mastitis, hot flashes, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraine headaches, bee stings, fever, or sunburn.

We have found that corn, because of its density, weight, and large kernel size, is an excellent conductor of heat. This gives corn a unique ability to retain and transmit heat for a longer period of time. Because it is a larger kernel, it will not dry out as quickly as other fillers do. Corn has less problems with humidity, mold, or mildew. It generally does not provoke allergies. Other fillers such as rice or cherry pits can turn rancid over time, and have an unpleasant smell. Flax seed contains linseed oil, which can explode in the presence of oxygen. Corn always smells like corn, and the kernel cannot be penetrated with outside odors. Corn will hold its shape as a rectangular kernel and will not disintegrate with time.

We use whole kernel field corn. Popcorn is a specific variety of corn. Popcorn is a completely round kernel with no exit for the moisture. When the moisture builds up, it pops. Whole kernel corn has an exit point at the base of the kernel, allowing the moisture to escape. It will smell like popcorn, but will not pop!

Our corn has been cleaned and inspected for bugs or insects. We also microwave the corn bag for the full heating time when they are filled to ensure you don’t have to worry about bugs or insects.

Do not wash your corn bag and/or do not immerse it in water. Spot clean only.

Although they should be used with caution, corn bags are great for all ages. You should decrease the heat for younger children and older adults in case it is too hot for them. Use with adult supervision.

Place your corn bag on the turntable in the center of your microwave, making sure it will turn freely. Start by heating your corn bag to the recommended time on the instruction sheet. If you would like it hotter, reheat it 30 seconds at a time until you reach your desired temperature.

Place your corn bag in a plastic freezer bag and place it in the freezer. It takes approximately 1 hour for it to get frozen. It will stay pliable so you can shape it to any part of your body. It will stay cold up to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the corn bag.
